Well it's Monday night and there's nothing good on TV. Oh wait, there's this fine 6 part Documentary series called Pleasure For Sale on the Sundance channel!!

What I don't get is how/why there isn't anymore cities with legalized brothals?? Why do they allow it in Nevada and nowhere else?

** Im seriously considering having my Holymagica tribute sig banner's url pointed to this series!!

It's wrong,.....it should stay illegal.

The male of the species is being tormented at all times - especially in the last decade or so. With the Britney-fication of 12 year olds, explosion of porn on the internet and the emergence of reality TV, most men will be constantly confronted with their primal urges (to mass-procreate.)

I think if we don't want to end up like the Asian countries (where male sexuality is the most bizarre thing in existence) there has to be some kind of moral center. Not necessarily a conservative, pious movement but a movement that shows more respect for women in general.

I'm not sure what to do about all the guys who can't get laid.

I agree with both of you Pip and Squid however I often wonder in a country that has on many levels drifted away from the moral fibers that once held it together strong, to become such a permissive society, who decides which "sins" are up for legalization and which are not? Perhaps because for the most part across the board, no matter what religious denomination you belong to, prostitution is considered immoral. However, what is baffling is that the non-JudeaoChristian sects claim that Christian morals are in the minority now, yet laws continue to reflect to the contrary. Is it wrong to say our laws still reflect the beliefs of our Puritanical forefathers? Or have they become a mix of all religions that make up the melting pot, who also make up the voters?

Some arguements claim that legalization would bring money in for the communities via taxation, considering no matter how illegal prostitution is, the "oldest profession" will not be anihilated. With legalization comes certain requirements like HIV and STD testing on a regulated level which would assist in the prevention of disease spereading.

Just who determines which of the "sins" or immoralities are illegal? Afterall prostitution may be illegal but it comes in more forms than just some swanky dressed women on the street corners or in these "ranches" in Pahrump Nevada. The other forms are accepted or better put get a blind eye turned to them.

Not to mention, those who make the laws also break the laws. Our forefathers weren't perfect, the Presidents that followed neither. Same as anyone who places themselves in a high religious seat of authority. For instance, gay marriages remain illegal in the states, yet its Ok to be Gay and be a Catholic priest. Many main stream Christian churches believe consuption of alcoholic beverages is a sin and immoral, but its not illegal. Marijuana is illegal, except for medicinal uses and for Native Americans on Reservations (so I was told) because it's part of their heritage (lol). It's illegal in some areas to even display the Ten Commandments in a public area, i.e. courthouses, etc...even though they are the basis of for what made the laws that founded this country??? But the Ten Commandments may offend someone because of Freedom of Religion??? The list goes on....

Sounds like confusion to me. I'm not a supporter of legalized prostitution, Im just having a hard time understanding how it can be legal in one city, then illegal everywhere else, and understanding the real basis used to form laws in this country.

UFOs need to land their undidentifiable peckers somewhere, and Nevada seems to be a popular area for that.

Prostitution remains illegal because of politics. Like anything else, a politician would have to propose that prostitution should be made legal. People who disagree for religious reasons or feminist thinking or just wives who would rather their husbands not have that "fast food drive thru" option would rally behind a candidate with the opposing view. The pro-prostitution candidate would be attacked and his or her character assassinated. Politicians usually promote things that will keep them in office so I don't see too many candidates that would promote legal prostitution out there.

Gambling and drinking alcohol are similar vices but have had more success as tools for generating tax revenue. But they also do not have the additional baggage that prostitution has. Women can share a beer or a trip to the casino but most would nor share a prostitute with their significant other.

I watched the youtube video above. It seems like any other job for the women that were talking shop. It seems to work in the setup described as the women are service workers. They in some respects are similar to any other job that people are hired to perform for another person be it tax preparation, plumbing or whatever. There are the tests for diseases and the women know that their work environment is safe and that the customers will not abuse them. So it seems when regulated and taxed it becomes like any other employee-employer relationship for the working girl and the brothel owner. Most of the downside of prostitution that operates on the other side of the law is similar to all the negative effects of drug dealing and drug users. The illegality causes much of the ancillary crimes that occur.

All that said, on one hand if all prostitution exchanges were as above board as the legal operations I may not have an issue with legalization. But on the other hand I would still tend to not favor it because it would likely drastically alter the current dynamic of our society. Although "traditional" marriage and child rearing are going through some changes, it is still the fundamental building block of our society.

I watched Midnight Cowboy just two days ago and it was just depressing movie. One of Jon Voigt and Dustin Hoffman's best roles. Everybody's Talkin' - great song.

Spermbanks with livestock? "Deposit inside us. Literally."

It would be like San Fransisco 1969 with hippies replaced with overwhored Sandra Bernhard clones. Now how would that affect on the kids who'd grow up thinking that's perfectly okay to sell your back and front meat when they have aged to a proper limit? "Dad, mom. I wanna be a whore instead of a police officer. Gotta go to the Whore Academy in Arkansas with Molly next year. I already got a scholarship of selling my pork at the back of the school yard to our school councellor. Please, support me. Please."

The question is; is it better to keep the porn in the shops among the fat guys who look like the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons or shove it in your face like Ron Jeremy to a bunch of nuns on a school bus in broad daylight?

Billy Graham would have a problem with it. I would too.

Paris Hilton and Billy Graham walked into a bar. Marilyn Manson becomes dated.

I've been to Amsterdam and Denmark, around there, if I remember correctly there are "menus" where you can get what you want. I think they're ahead of the game.

Kids smoke pot and hash and drink beer out in the streets, not that' that's ok, but this is how liberal Amsterdam is. It looks a lot like New York just liberal as a mofo.

5 Squiddies.
