UK Subs is a really great punk band and I find some of their songs to be very good fun. Endangered Species is a good album but only if you listen to the first half of the album, and that is because it was the transition album and the rock and pop scene became full of MTV driven vidiots. The second half of Endangred Species is oddly similar to the British MTV pop scene. And probably this lead to some arguments between Charlie Harper and the guitarist Nicky Garratt.
But then you have classic cuts like Down on the Farm which is one of the finest punk songs ever written.
"I write a thousand letters, till my fingers all get numb But I've never seen no postman, down here on the farm..."
Hahahah, such cynicism... I've been on a farm the past couple of days and that song just fit the general mood.
Other standout tracks for me are the title track, doom punk rocker Countdown, bluesy and groovy punk piece Ambition and the hilarious Fear of Girls. Nicky Garratt is one of the finest punk guitarist out there aside with Steve Jones and East Bay Ray. As a sidenote, it's funny but the founder and lead vocalist Charlie Harper actually founded the band when he was 32 years old (which is about my age).
