They did and still do.

They fry them and put them on sandwiches called "po-boys" or put them in gumbo. Some people eat them raw.

Yeah these are cool.

They are actually a form of Cephalopod--poda or pod meaning feet, while cephalo refering to head. Thought they are rare compared to some of their more common cousins, they are not really all that alien a species.

I still bet they are good eatin'! LOL
