Romero's original black and white has a soft spot for me, but The Walking Dead television production just made new standards for a horror television show.
I've been a fan of Andrew Lincoln since his appearance on the British cult tv show Teachers (2001 - 2004) where he played a teacher. Very different role here.
Underneath the show has very melancholic and lonely atmosphere. It's lot more distressing than any of the zombie movies I've seen the past 20 years. Romero hasn't done anything great since Dawn of the Dead.
This may be the only zombie production where the actors can really act. I don't think I've ever seen so much gore in television before. But the gore doesen't shock as much as the threat of constant surprise deaths. You know that the officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is going to survive all through the season, but you can't be sure of anyone else.
No spoilers... just a warning that if you have little toddlers or furballs in the living room, make sure they're in their cages and don't bite you in the leg when you watch the show. Because you're going to crap your pants if they sneak behind you.
Truly a fine production. Classic 1st season. If Obama didn't kill your hope yet, this show will. I saw The Road recently and The Walking Dead has that gritty agnostism hanging about it. Best television show of the past ten years among with Deadwood, Rescue Me and South Park.
