Chain Restaurants... Outback Steakhouse

I figure I'll start reviewing restaurants. Chain restaurants so that everyone can see what I'm talking about.

Outback Steakhouse - 3 kisses (the sanctioned iBeaux rating system and a good one for food.)

I like Outback but wouldn't call it amazing. For the price it's above average. My favorite steak is Smith and Wollensky's (although it closed in NOLA.)

First health tirade on this board...

Men's Health magazine introduces its first annual tabulation of The 20 Worst Foods in America. By worst, the magazine doesnt necessarily mean bad-tastingit means worst for your health. What weve got here are high-calorie, high-sodium, massive-carb foods, all from fast-food or chain restaurants, accompanied by photos that are stomach-churning enough to put anyone on a diet.

"The number one worst food in America, however, turns out to be a putative Australian import: the Outback Steakhouse Aussie Cheese Fries with Ranch Dressing. This ostensible starter serves up 2,900 calories and 182 grams of fat. Even if you split it with three friends, the article notes, youll have downed a dinners worth of calories before your entree arrives."

Pip,

I was actually a vegetarian for about 6 months. I advocate it as the most healthy lifestyle - despite what a lot of nutritionists say about the need for protein. I think that's bullshyt.

There is some old guy doing a study on human longevity. He is stressing the need to eat less than 1000 calories a day - making vegetarianism almost a necessity and causing him to be extremely thin. But his calculations indicate that he may be able to live to 110 as a healthy man.

After Katrina I really let myself go crazy on food. I suppose it was an anti-depressant of sorts. But now I really have to get back on a serious regimen.

That fry thing is gross. But the more expensive steaks are ok and they have a pretty good salmon dish.

I encourage you to keep us posted on your studies into nutrition since you seem to be energized by the subject.
