Considering the hype and secrecy behind the promotion of this movie I thought for sure Hollywierd had finally come up with a script that would really scare the hell out of me. Unfortunately, back to the drawing board! My guess is, they kept the "threat" or nemesis in the movie such a secret because if they had revealed it, just a tiny hint of it before the release, they wouldn't have made as much money in the box office.
Assumably the filmakers chose to use the Blair Witch home camera effect to somehow bridge the gap between nightmare/fantasy and reality. To hopefully make the viewer feel like they are watching a video tape that was found after a terrible event took place in New York. NOT! In every scene turn of the film I expected at any moment a couple Japanese guys with cameras around their necks would pop in front of the lense yelling "Godzeeeeeeeera....Godzeeeeeeeeeeera!" Watching this movie was like being in a terrible dream where you're riding a roller coaster, having the best doggy-style sex of your life, then you turn around to look at your lover, only to find, to your horror you've just been dealt a freshly picked cucumber by Captain Kangaroo!
Did this movie have a climax? Perhaps I fell asleep.
Indeed one thing I can say is this film was definitely a one-of-a-kind endeavor and I certainly hope the filmakers intend to keep it that way! This movie gets "3 Kisses" and that's being on the generous side.
I thought Cloverfield was great. Aside from some clunky dialogue to set things up this movie had a lot of WOW moments. The acting was very good, the effects were convincing and it often did seem real.
I think you may have suffered from the way you watched the movie - i.e. the internet streaming site. In the theater some images were on the verge of muddyness - on the very small screen I would imagine they were close to unintelligible.
If you didn't watch it to the end please do so. The end had a nice emotional impact for me and illustrated one of the ingenious plot devices they used throughout the movie (the juxtaposed video clips that been "taped over.")
Squidly, Squidly...There were more WOW moments in Steel Magnolias than in this movie!! As for clunky dialogue, that was the entire movie, not just to "set things up." Not to mention, how "real" can a storyline be when the method by which it was made, handheld, home video perspective, restricts you from seeing the grander threat that may exist IF you believe in human domination via

giant ****roach-gargoyle hybrids!
Plus, as you say, "in the theater some images were on the verge of muddyness," yet you give the movie "4 Squids" with a straight face? I say "Squidly...Squidly..." in my best Red Redding voice!
As for the "acting" being "good," well thats stretching it a bit. There's not a single top billed actor in the film and I doubt it had anything to do with the budget. More like every reputable actor in Hollywierd and the world for that much read the script and said "not on your life!"
Indeed, as I am a movie fanatic, I did watch it to the end. The movie just wasn't "real" enough for me even in the end to move me emotionally. Except to cheer that it was FINALLY over!
You Rock dude, even after calling me a slut and using the "internet streaming" jab I expected from Scot Clayton!! (snicker snicker)
Fair enough, Sweet Bitch, but I won't sway from my opinions. I thought it was original, exciting and moving. I WAS glad it was as short as it was. A longer movie would have been more than necessary.
Do you at least agree that the video camera overlap plot trick was ingenious?

Next movie?
Oh trust me, it's just a movie discussion, there's no attempt at swaying!
LOL If you keep calling me "slut" and "Sweet Bitch" you may spoil me. Some women take offense to such names but it's actually the nicest thing anyone's called me in awhile.
Yes, actually the ingeniousness of the video camera overlap I will agree with.

It gave the "feel" that their final legacy would not be just a sad, violent one.
I have to ask you though Squid, did you think their was an underlying joke to the fact that the party was for the lead character who was about to go off to Japan? [Godzeeeeeeeera!!] Sorry, couldn't resist!
Next movie...hmmmm...I Am Legend, Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, Things We Lost In The Fire, I Know Who Killed Me...???
