Aside from seeing the Beatles live on August 28, 1964, Janis, Jimi, The Doors, the Momas and the Popas, these were my "free" concerts. Rainbow was among my first "paying for" concerts. You know my well-documented Rainbow show at the Beacon Theatre in 1975 where I interviewed Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover on cassette (which I don't have anymore).
Then there was another Rainbow show I went to where I was really FRONT OF HOUSE with Rainbow standing right there at the stage. It was in The Asbury Park Convention Center in Asbury Park, New Jersey. So much so RB could hear me talking about him to my friend.
If you've never heard about Asbury Park, it's said it's here where love children walk up and put dimes in your parking meter. I don't know if it's still like that, but it used to be.
I'm mot saying I "discovered" RJD, actually, but I was there for the beginning of this. The wereo is the Glory. Happy 34th Anniversary California Jam!
That's a little before the Rainbow shows you saw, Scott. Ronnie and his band circa 1958. Definitely before he hooked up with Ritchie Blackmore and definitely before my time.
